Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million, to open a state-of-the-art logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This new facility, which is the largest warehouse for Lidl in Hungary, is set to bolster the supply chain for around 70 stores nationwide. Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the center’s establishment highlights Lidl’s commitment to enhancing its operations within the country.
The opening of this logistics center has been a boon for the local job market, creating over 400 new positions. Furthermore, Lidl has plans to expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees in the near future. This expansion not only supports local employment but also demonstrates Lidl’s dedication to sustainable development, as evidenced by the facility’s numerous energy-efficient features.
A notable aspect of the new center is its 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. Sustainability is a key feature, with the center boasting a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation and an innovative system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating. Complementing these features is a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, enhancing the environmental footprint of the site.
With an operational capacity to dispatch around 4,500 pallets of goods daily, this logistics center is poised to significantly strengthen Lidl’s supply network across Hungary. The retailer currently runs 220 stores in the country, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers. The establishment of this new logistics hub is not only a step towards consolidating Lidl’s domestic operations but also a foundation for its future growth and expansion within the region.
